  1. I learned today that American Express is, or may be considering, refusing to process any payments made to any member of Congress who voted not to certify the recent Electoral College votes, calling that vote an attempt to overthrow the election — which is sedition — and a support of violent insurrection.

This move stands in stark contrast to the response of banks and corporations to the violent Black Lives Matter anti-police riots last year. In response to those events, corporations pledged billions of dollars in support of BLM and related causes.

This is very distressing to me, as a long-time banking customer. The ability/option to contribute to any political cause or political figure is an exercise in free speech, guaranteed by the United States Constitution. The suppression of that free speech is a violation of the Constitution. I will not participate in the suppression of free speech, nor will I submit to my Constitutional rights being violated and my own free speech being suppressed in this way.

My ongoing banking choices will be determined by your stance on this important issue of freedom. Please reply to clarify so that I may make appropriate banking decisions.

    Sincerely,

  2. Hi,
I received a text claiming to be American Express: Sign-in unusual activity followed by a link in which I won’t open. I don’t have an AE card or account. The number is 833-227-2513. Is this a legit phone number and something I need to be concerned about an identity theft using your company?
